Developing your own color negative film at home might not be as scary as you think. With a simple developing kit, a few accessories, and a short tutorial, the folks at the Film Photography Project will show you how to do it in just 10 minutes.
FPP put together this walkthrough in response to the many questions they get from people looking to buy their color negative home developing kits. And while the process might seem daunting if you’ve never done it, it’s not actually that bad.
In addition to one of those kits (or your own chemicals) you’ll need: a space with running hot water away from kids and pets, a can opener, a light tight film tank and film reels, a pitch black room or film changing bag, a container to hold your chemicals, a funnel, a thermometer, a measuring beaker, and a squeegee.
We’ll let FPP’s Michael Raso take it from here:
It goes without saying that you need to be extremely careful when using chemicals, so please take appropriate precautions if you intend to try this at home. And if any of you home developing veterans have tips, tricks, or tools you’d like to share with the rest of us, please let us know in the comments.
