If you happen to have a plethora of Contax lenses stored away and are now busy playing with a Sony A7 or NEX camera then we have some exciting news for you. Thanks to eBay shop Kens_Camera, it is now possible to purchase a Contax N-mount to Sony E-mount adapter. The seller explains he designed the adapter himself and that it is an entirely automatic adapter with only slight autofocus limitations.
The Fringer adapter, as it is being called, is compatible with Sony’s E-mount camera systems and can be used in conjunction with the company’s 5-axis stabilization technology. Tests with a 200mm Contax N-mount lens show that decent shots could be obtained all the way down to 1/10th of a second, handheld.
In addition to standard Contax N lenses, the adapter also supports C645 glass. Automatic aperture and autofocus control are possible, and all EXIF data is recorded and saved, including the lens model and other standard information.
Kens_Camera does note that it is important to “understand AF limitations before your order.” Due to the fact that N mount and C645 lenses are designed for SLR style cameras, contrasting autofocus bodies may produce poor autofocusing. The seller claims it is not a malfunction of the adapter, but merely a limitation of technology.
Here’s a video showing the adapter in action:

You can pick up the adapter today for $680 plus $45 for standard international shipping from China. It’s a pretty steep price, but you don’t really have any other options right now if you’d like this type of adapter.
