Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream Lids Are Perfect Lens Caps

icecreamcaphead

Here’s a quirky fact about photography and life: the lids of certain Häagen-Dazs ice cream containers make for perfect lens caps for 72mm lenses.

This fact was originally reported by one Japanese photographer who Tweeted it back in 2014:

Other Japanese photographers quickly went out and bought themselves ice cream to see if it was true. This led to a torrent of photos of lenses with ice cream caps snugly covering the front element. Canon, Nikon, and Sony photographers all joined in:

So, if you’re ever walking around and notice a photographer with an ice cream cap on the front of their lens, now you know how the trend came about.
