Over in Europe, Ford has created special ‘Camera Tracking Unit’ cars for photographers to shoot publicity photos from. The cars are standard Ford cars that have been modified — the back has been chopped off and turned into a rear-facing seat specifically for a photographer.
Reporter Máté Petrány of Jalopnik came across these curious creations while covering Ford’s latest models. The models he saw were created from a black Ford Focus ST wagon and a black Ford Fiesta ST.
While the main interior area of the cars remains unchanged for the driver, the back has been completely custom built to provide a seat, a special tripod mount, and a number of different mounting points located around the edge.
This car lets you shoot cars on a track with a setup that’s much safer than looking out the open door of a standard minivan.
“Why would car companies rent special camera cars spending a ton of money in the process every year when they can also built some themselves?” Petrány writes over on Jalopnik.
