Brazilian photographer Charles Oliveira recently put the Mitakon Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 lens through its paces using his Nikon D600. Announced back in 2015, this is a Chinese lens that offers 85mm f/1.2 at a relatively affordable price of $799.
Canon’s 85mm f/1.2 lens currently costs $1,849. Nikon doesn’t even offer an equivalent lens: the closest you can get is the $1,600 Nikkor 85mm f/1.4.
To test out the shallow depth of field and bokeh quality of the Mitakon Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2, Oliveira photographed his girlfriend, Gaby, in the historic Brazilian city of Ouro Preto.
Oliveira says that focusing the manual focus lens isn’t easy, but you can get used to working with the extremely shallow depth of field with enough practice. You can find a larger gallery of sample photos at Nikon Rumors.
