A Comprehensive Color Theory Guide for Photographers

We talk about composition a lot, but have you ever really dived into the subject of color theory and thought about how it applies to your photography? If you haven’t, you should… and arguably the best place to start is this incredibly comprehensive demo by landscape photographer Dave Morrow.

This educational tutorial is not for the faint of heart, but if you’re serious about your photography—especially landscapes—it’s 39 minutes of must-watch content.

Morrow begins by breaking down the beautiful paintings of Albert Bierstadt for you, and then moves on to show you how all 5 different types of color harmony can be used to improve your photography and photo editing, editing a RAW landscape photograph from Patagonia from start to finish while you follow along.

The video is extremely comprehensive, but if you want to dive into even more step-by-step detail, you can read the full guide on Morrow’s website or even download a PDF version (if you’re willing to offer your email address in exchange). This might be one of the few photography guides online worth giving away your email.
