Samyang Unveils 35mm f/1.4 FE Lens for Sony Full Frame Mirrorless

Samyang Optics has announced its fourth autofocus lens, the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 FE. Made for full-frame mirrorless cameras, it comes in a Sony E-mount and is “designed to appeal to enthusiasts and professionals who are ready to take the next step up in photography.”

Designed for portrait, landscape, and low-light event photographers, the lens joins Samyang’s previous autofocus line-up which now stands at four lenses. Other than the new 35mm, Samyang offers 14mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2.8, and 50mm f/1.4 lenses.

The new 35mm is formed of 11 elements in 9 groups, with 2 aspherical and 2 high-refractive lenses. It also has Ultra Multi Coating, a feature used to reduce ghosting and lens flare. Alongside this, the optical design will fight against aberration and “unnecessary light dispersion.”

The “absolute resolution” from corner to corner of the image means you won’t see a drop in sharpness at the edges of the scene.

The autofocus is fast and quiet thanks to the LSM (Linear Super Sonic Motor), and the wide 9-blade f/1.4 aperture will create a shallow depth of field “look” even in a wide angle of view. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.3 meters, a filter diameter of 67mm, and weighs in at 645 grams.

The Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 FE lens will be available from November 2017 and will retail for €650 (around $765).
