Today, Sigma has announced pricing for its new 14mm and 24-70mm Art lenses. The information comes 4 months after the original announcement of the new lenses, although pricing for the 135mm lens still remains a mystery.
The ultra-wide angle Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art lens, compatible with Canon and Sigma camera systems, will begin shipping this month. The Nikon version of the lens will start shipping in July this year. The lens will retail for $1,600.
The new 24-70mm f/2.8 Art lens will ship this month for all systems, and will retail at $1,300.
So how do they line-up with other lenses on the market? Neither Canon or Nikon make their own f/1.8 version of a 14mm lens, but they do make f/2.8 versions and these lenses have been around for a while.
For Nikon, the 14mm f/2.8D ED lens will set you back $1,900. The Canon 14mm f/2.8L II USM costs $2,100. Both of these lenses are old now, with the Canon being released in 2007 and the Nikon way back in 2002. So the Sigma is the faster, cheaper, and newer option of the bunch. It will be interesting to see exactly how these lenses perform in “real life” testing.
As for the 24-70mm, the main brands do have their own versions, and they are very popular lenses, too. The new Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E ED lens was released only 2 years ago, and costs $2,200. The Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens will only set you back $1,700 (but the lens was released in 2012). So again the Sigma version of this lens is cheaper than both Canon and Nikon.
