Novoflex’s ‘Reversible’ ClassicBall Gives You Two Tripod Heads in One

If you’ve got some money to burn and you’re looking for a versatile new tripod head, put Novoflex’s ClassicBall heads on your list. The creatively designed ball heads are actually ‘reversible,’ giving you a ball head and a leveling panorama panning base all-in-one.

The idea for a tripod head you can flip isn’t new—Acratech’s GP series ball heads have been doing it for a couple of years now—but Novoflex has done their best to make the ClassicBall series a bit more versatile. The main feature is still being able to mount the head upside down though, providing a level base for easier panoramas capture and stitching.

Here’s a demo the company put together to show off all of the ClassicBall’s features:

The ClassicBall comes in three flavors: the ClassicBall 2, ClassicBall 3, and ClassicBall 5, each with a different weight rating and price point. The 2 costs $495, weighs 11.1 oz, and holds up to 11 lbs; the 3 costs $475, weighs 1.1 lbs, and can hold up to 17.6 lbs; and the 5 costs $692, weighs 2.1 lbs, and can hold up to 26 lbs.

The ClassicBall seems capable enough, and with three different load options you can pick your poison, the question now becomes “is it worth the cost.”

We’ll let you decide that, but if this was your introduction to reversible tripod heads and you’re now in the market for something like a Novoflex ClassicBall, we definitely suggest you take a look at the Acratech options before you bite the bullet.
