If you’re a fan of high-quality glass for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras, Zeiss has your back. According to a new report from a reliable source, the total number of Batis and Loxia lenses will go from 6 to 10 by the end of 2016.
The report comes from sonyalpharumors, who has it from a “very good source” that Zeiss intents to have “5 Loxia and 5 Batis [lenses] by end 2016.”
Currently, the Batis and Loxia lines both feature only 3 lenses. For the Batis lens line, we have an 18mm f/2.8, a 25mm f/2, and an 85mm f/1.8; for the Loxia lens line, we have a 21mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2, and 50mm f/2.
The question now is what gaps remain to be filled? 18, 21, 25, 35, 50, and 85mm lenses already exist. Will there be overlap between the two lines, or are they going to continue to expand the line futher out into the telephoto range? Is there a macro lens on the way? Maybe the first Batis and Loxia zooms?
Obviously all of this is speculation for now, but we’re already more than half way through 2016. We shouldn’t have to wait long to see what’s in store.
