Logitech’s New Craft Keyboard Has a ‘Smart’ Dial for Photo Editing

Logitech has just announced Craft, a new keyboard with a “creative input dial” that “sets a new standard for computer keyboards.” Targeted at creatives, the smart dial should make editing photos and other tasks a lot more fluid if you’ve been wanting physical controls without going on out.

All eyes are on the creative dial with regards to this keyboard; it’s something that can dramatically ease the workflow of photographers and other digital creatives.

A touch, tap, or turn of the dial can adjust the brightness of an image, contrast, or saturation in Adobe Photoshop.

The Craft keyboard, weighing just under 1 kg, “gives you the ultimate control and input at your desk for precision, efficiency, and uninterrupted creative flow.”

“Our new flagship Logitech CRAFT keyboard is for all creators who spend a lot of time designing and creating – who want to work with greater precision and feel connected to their work,” said Art O’Gnimh, global head of keyboards at Logitech. “The creative input dial gives you instant access to the functions you need, the moment you need them, allowing you to increase your productivity by simply touching the dial. CRAFT puts you in your creative element – every time you sit at the desk.”

The dial is made of aluminum and is touch-sensitive, with the ability to recognize the apps you are using and provides “instant access to the tools you need.”

It can work alongside Adobe Photoshop, giving you quick adjustment access to brush size, brightness, and other similar functions.

You can program the dial to do a whole host of things, actually. Utilizing Logitech’s “Options Software,” it’s possible to customize how exactly the dial works with a variety of different programs.

The Craft keyboard also has “smart illumination with backlighting,” a feature that detects your hands and adjusts the lighting automatically depending on ambient light conditions.

Finally, there’s an Easy-Switch button which allows you to quickly swap between up to 3 connected devices, whether Windows or Mac, to give you total flexibility.

The Logitech Craft Advanced Keyboard will be available in the US starting in October 2017 and will cost a hefty $200. For $100, though, you can also purchase a Loupedeck and get 13 times as many dials.

Spekular is a Modular LED Light System That Takes On the Shape You Want

Spiffy Gear has just launched a new innovative LED light system called Spekular. Touted as “the Swiss army knife of LED lighting,” the modular kit consists of LED light bars that can be connected and arranged in whatever shape you design.

Spekular is designed to be a single system that replaces things like light strips, soft boxes, and shaped lights in a photo studio.

“The system drastically reduces the number of accessories needed to create professional lighting setups,” Spiffy Gear says. “Spekular can be configured as a ring, a square, a strip, a star, a ‘standard’ panel, and many more configurations.”

Here are a few of the different catch lights that result:

Each LED light bar puts out 14.5W of light — equivalent to roughly 150W of halogen light. The lights have a 94+ CRI, helping to maintain a perfect color rendition of the scene and subject you’re photographing. They’re also fully dimmable without any flicker, giving you even more flexibility.

The standard Spekular kit contains four durable aluminum light bars, which has a light output equivalent to four “standard LED panels.” Bars can be joined using included ABS plastic connectors, and you also get a carrying case and mounting gear.

If you need even more flexibility, you can purchase additional pieces to grow your kit. A Spekular Star Adapter lets you arrange light bars into an 8-sectioned star with a shoot-through hole in the center.

There’s also an Extension Kit that lets you arrange lights in a 3-point lighting setup, complex arrangements, and long seamless strips.

Finally, there’s also a Battery Adapter that allows the system to be powered by any DTAP-enabled V-mount battery around the world.

The standard base kit can be purchased from the Spiffy Gear online store for $650. The Star Adapter, Extension Kit, and Battery Adapter cost $130 each. Going all-out on a fully-capable Spekular system won’t be cheap, but you’ll have one of the most flexible lighting setups on the market.

DJI Unveils Platinum Mavic, Obsidian Phantom, and a ‘Sphere Mode’

DJI just unveiled three new products at the IFA 2017 tech show in Berlin. There are two new overhauls to existing drones and a brand new “sphere mode.”

The new drones it is bringing out are mainly cosmetic updates to older versions, but there are some new features and specs thrown into the mix.

DJI Mavic Pro Platinum

First up is the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum edition. Taking all of the previous features of the Mavic Pro, the Platinum version will build on what previously “revolutionized personal flight.”

Aimed at travelers, amateur photographers, and outdoor sports enthusiasts, the Mavic Pro Platinum boasts an increased flight time totaling 30 minutes. That’s alongside a 60% reduction in the noise produced, and the compact body has been designed with an attractive platinum-colored shell.

New electronic speed controllers and freshly designed propellers are the cause of the increased flight time and quieter operation, and they’re also compatible with the current Mavic Pro.

Oh, and don’t forget the 4K stabilized camera, 7km range, innovative FlightAutonomy technology which senses obstacles up to 15 meters away, and a range of intelligent flight modes.

DJI Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian

In what DJI is calling the “professional drone photographer’s perfect tool,” the iconic Phantom 4 Pro drone is coming back with a new “professional appearance.” One thing’s for sure: this new drone oozes quality and prowess.

Its sleek matte-gray Obsidian color shell features a magnesium, electroplated and anti-fingerprint coated gimbal. To create this took “a higher standard manufacturing technique.”

The drone will come with a large 1-inch CMOS sensor and 4K recording at 60fps. It offers “intelligent performance” and a “powerful imaging system.”

Spark’s New Sphere Mode

The DJI Spark now has a new ‘sphere mode’ for users to enjoy and experiment with.

The easy-to-use, fun-to-fly mini camera drone is now able to create a panoramic photo with a fisheye lens effect. The sphere can then be shared straight onto social media and will work with the upcoming DJI GO 4 mobile app.

The new mode will come with a firmware update, available for free to Spark owners. Other features of recently announced firmware updates include a new gesture to activate video recording, enhanced QuickShot video, a 180-degree photo shooting mode, and optimisation of the PalmLaunch feature.
